Quark 1978 sci-fi comedy richard benjamin buck henry

And now from the sublime to the plain ridiculous. This is a clip from a show that Mr. Benjamin did in between his being a coveted film actor and later facing career slow-down, and still later getting a shot at directing feature films like "My Favorite Year" (1982). It's a take off on "Star Wars" of course--a film that inspired a lot of similar movies and shows about this time. Too many really.

I remember "Quark" a little better than "He and She" and that's not so good. You can see all the things from 1970's pop culture that make a possible funny idea go bad--cheap jokes about bimbo women, the supporting gay character who is treated as a joke in himself, the bad special effects and inconsistent dialogue. I remember some humor from this show, but there was nothing too memorable.
Buck Henry, co-screenwriter of "The Graduate" is credited as the "creator" of this. Suffice to say Mr. Henry is a funny guy but he needed to put more into this project. Anyway, worst of all, Paula Prentiss was not in this series :-(
