No More Election 2012 blogs for me until November. ********************** My last blog, on the subject of Paul Ryan and Medicare, was a success in bringing people out to comment about it and I thank all who stopped by and left a message. But I've also decided this is the last blog I will put up here, or anywhere else, on these divisive elections. I find myself repeating myself too much--the campaign itself is too, too long!-- and I am in essence burned out on the subject. ************************** I get the feeling that those who reply to me are pretty much set in who they support and therefore my views are superfluous and, to me at least, redundant. I will continue to blog on other matters not related to the coming election in the USA.

  6. I know what you mean Doug, the die hards on one party or another are very stubborn on what they say and who they will vote for....I am not doing much on that either...once in a while if I see something cute or funny, like the Romney girl thing or I posted a happy birthday social security on blogster...but that will be it for me also...too many jerks out there who like to throw out crap and we dont need it.

  7. I agree Marty.

I'm sure I'm the most stubborn person on my own blogs, bar none.

Occasionally I get a "outlier" from outside my friends circle here. I've noticed on Blogster some people are jumping on my case and I'd just as soon stop the election blogs there too.

I'm just giving myself an early birthday present here. Blogging about the election is starting to feel like a job, an unpaid internship, and that is not what I go on-line for. Besides, there are so many other topics I can explore here until Multipy goes gunnybags.

  8. Amen!

I wish we would adopt some features from the Canadian model and limit official campaigns to just a few weeks. Since campaign spending is limited by law (another thing we should adopt) having long, protracted campaigns becomes financially (and emotionally) unsustainable... so there's a serious push to start and end campaigns as quickly as possible.

  9. That suggests the reason for a blog would be to persuade someone to change their minds which, of course, is rarely accomplished on anything, political or otherwise.

To me, blogging isn't about trying to convert but to explain why I feel a particular way or to vent about a grievance (real or imagined) that I feel needs aired. In that regard, I expect to blog about things political right up til the bitter (November) end...

  10. Thats how I felt too, but so many dont want to hear about 'my' feeling on anything. If its not their way, then the hell with what anyone else feels or thinks. Especially if its a lie, then that really makes me mad and I try to reveal that lie for what it is....A LIE!!!!

  11. That's quite true.. but there are two options for people who aren't interested in hearing your view of the world:
    1) don't read your entry or
    2) don't be your friend.

I have joined several blatantly political groups, a couple of which are dominated by right-wing-thinking members (and blogs) which are quite often filled with those lies of which you speak... and when I occasionally try to correct them, they get quite annoyed. Those are the ones that I just remove from my 'list' and ignore.

I have only had a few people take me to task about an opinion piece I've written that became a problem... and, in a few instances, have been corrected about a factoid I held which was wrong. I appreciate the feedback and frequent differences of opinion I get from those blogs...

  12. That would work for me Chuck. I'm at the end of my rope with these money-driven campaign marathons. We could use some reform.

  13. I get what your saying I think Chuck, and I agree. Just for personal reasons I need to get off Camapign 2012. I hope everybody else carries on.

I'll be happy to leave positive comments on other sites. OK, somewhat positive if worse comes to worse. ;-)

Yeah, the political groups on Multiply are hit and miss. I don't educate chumps anymore. I like the people who are my contancts and friends here. Total online strangers who drop by just to "educate me" I have less and less use for.

  14. Seems there are a lot of those, too.

Actually, I would welcome some factual bases to be "educated" with but they never shed any light on a given subject, just a whole lot of unsubstantiated heat. Methinks they listen too much to the talking points of certain radio talkshow hosts (and/or certain faux news programs on cable) without bothering with the truth.

  15. Yes, Chuck, some moron on another site sent me a reply to the effect that the whole Bush-era economic meltdown didn't happen--it was all Clinton and the Democrats fault. Apparently he missed the first eights years of the new century.

Whatever mistakes Clinton made in signing this or that bill were compounded by Republicans and "New" Democrats in Congress who pushed for the financial deregulation in the first place.

Another guy wrote a reply that said, "You're wrong about Paul Ryan. Now go and do your homework. All of it." That was his 'introduction" to myself and my site.

That Limbaugh-addled chump got blocked. He ain't coming back. That was MY homework.

  16. Anyway, I'm back blogging on Election 2012. Unlike politicans, I admit when I break my promises.

  17. I rarely get those guys showing up to comment on my page but when I comment on other peoples' pages, I get those in spades. Those groups dedicated to political debate ('robust,' my ass) are fairly littered with those types of remarks and begs the question: do these guys ever stop to consider how inane and specious they sound?

I've had to block maybe five or six users during my tenure at MP, which I consider pretty good... considering. I suspect I've been particularly lucky in that regard, especially when take into account my occasional, very-partisan blogs.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Would you consider that a "promise," or simply your "intention?"
Changing one's mind is not just a "woman's perogative." LOL

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yes, Chuck, I really only get the "inane and specious" crowd on other sites. The few I've blocked on Multiply jumped on people I consider regulars. I think they wantd to be blocked, or they are really angry people exist who don't agree with them on contentious issues.

I'm surprised myself sometimes when I post something political or religious or whatever and people who disagree manage to do it without "flaming" tactics. If you ever look on a major newspaper or magazine site you see some people just have a meltdown.

A freind of mine who is not on Multiply at all looks at my blogs from time to time. He said to me, "Boy everybody is so NICE on your comments page."

  20. Well, Chuck, Iike the guy who got drunk at his bachelor party, jumped off the motel roof, and missed the swimming pool, "It sure seemed like a good idea at the time."

I'd say it was my intention.

  21. LOL
Well... maybe the simile isn't exactly the same... but it's much funnier.

  22. What you said reminded me of comments I sometimes get (or see, elsewhere) exactly those kind of comments (some are quite hateful and vile) on YouTube videos that address controversial issues.

I've seen comment threads that go on for pages and over multiple days that were completely vacuous and devoid of any facts. Someone gets their panties in a bunch and the diatribes and four-letter expletives fly...

It's not just Americans engaging in this boorish behavior, either. I follow Canadian politics about as closely as I do the U.S. version and, believe me, Canucks can get down and dirty as can my Yankee brethren.

  23. Yes, You Tube I would say is a Top Ten site for really ugly comments. I think that's why they had to put in an "all comments suspended for this video" feature. Any posts about sports or some long-off war really seem to really bring out the worst comments.

lol...Glad to hear our Canadians cousins let their "nice" guard now and then. It's not like they don't come from some really angry parts of the globe like some of our ancestors did.
