This really has little to do with the "changes of seasons" theme, but I thought it was amusing. This sign for "Mary Jane Avenue" in Ashland is freguently stolen and has to be replaced by the city. I guess the lure of a marijuana reference is too great for some to resist.
Here are some shots of Southern Oregon taken as the seasons moved into the Fall or the Spring, birth of which are beautiful in this part of the Pacific Northwest.
I envy you. Almost all of the leaves are down here now and they are actually talking about snow on Thursday. I'm not ready for that.
ReplyDeleteI guess I am lucky. The snow stays in the mountains mainly. I lived through two Winters over to the east of the Rogue Valley in Klamath Falls (elevation 4,500 feet) so I know a bit about what a pain long periods of snow can be.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful area, I have shirt tail relatives in Washington state, (Redmond) and they own a ranch in Oregon somewhere, don't recall town where but your neighborhood is pretty! You can tell by the trees the latitude is a little more south than here, or very close to here, as St Paul. Get bead catalogs from Fire Mountain out your way...fascinating catalogues they have, for the artsy in all of us!!! It would be neat to have mountains in the view where one would live, that would be fun. Thank you for pictures, it's always cool seeing rest of our beautiful country.
ReplyDeleteI have a q. on this, will ask later...have to get to grocery before it closes in 2 hours...
ReplyDeleteI love this one. Are the 3 diamond shaped things prisms from your camera? Or the swirly thing at the right of the top diamond? (I'm trying learn about taking pictures and how refracted light gets into the pictures is why I ask.)
ReplyDeleteLovely.
ReplyDeleterofl
ReplyDeleteThis one is cool, nice offset with the mountains in the back...there's that diamond again in the bottom right.
ReplyDeleteHow cool is that!
ReplyDeleteOh this one rocks.
ReplyDeleteYes, that's from pointing it too close to the direct sunlight. Glad you like the shot..
ReplyDeleteYes, same problem with the light. I wanted to get this angle because it gives that nice backdrop of the mountains
ReplyDeleteVery cool. That was on the side of an old fashioned arcade mall. I was lucky that the sun was hitting it at a good angle so you can really see some of the details of the mural.
ReplyDeleteI love this mural, brimming with nostalgic history.
ReplyDeletebeautiful picture of a beautiful scene.
ReplyDeletevery lovely
ReplyDeletereminds me of Bert the Mensa Chicken, lol
ReplyDeleteI like the way the water is painted, it has a vague resemblance to Maori art. Not sure about the train arising from the waves though...
good photo opportunity lol
ReplyDeletewell taken Doug.
ReplyDeletethe trees are holding up the sky
ReplyDeleteoh the power of water, love this picture.
ReplyDeletethis picture reminded me of mountain rivers here - till I read your comment and remembered that movie lol
ReplyDeleteI have to do some historical background on this area for future blogs...this is the town my fraternal grandfather came to in 1905 and met my grandmother by the way.
ReplyDeleteI was lucky to get such a pretty, cloudless day. The river is so gentle here--the river rapids begin a few miles down further as The Rogue narrows through canyons on its way to the Pacific.
ReplyDeleteThank you. It's really one of my favorite nature sites, period.
ReplyDeleteIt's rare that Lithia Creek gets this powerful...this was taken in April, in the hills just above the main city park...most of the time little kids down at the playground area of the park can wade about in the shallows up to their knees.
ReplyDeletethe old guy hardly budged at all :-)
ReplyDeleteYes, the area and the rapids reminded me of the movie...it didn't help I was up at a place a bit of ways from the main road.
ReplyDeleteI've heard of Fire Mountain but I didn't realize they were national. I've never been out to the "Old Northwest" area but I'm sure you have a lot of beautiful lakes, rivers and forests in Minnesota.
ReplyDeleteFunny! I forgot about old Bert the Chicken! I wonder if he's still over at Yahoo?
ReplyDeleteIt does appear that way--the firs are not as majestic as the mature redwood tress, but more slender and let in a good deal more light.
ReplyDeleteOh what stunning photos. Lucky you! My brother Mark was born in Beaverton and named, at the time, after one of your senators and then good friend of my father's. I was always sorry when we were transferred away from Oregon, as I think I could have lived there all my life. I'd later visited Ashland a few times being a Shakespeare buff, and I might have even tried to relocate there if it weren't for your state's notorious reputation for high unemployment. Cheers
ReplyDeleteAlas, all too true about the job situation. I managed to luck into living here after fleeing from the higher unemployment over in Klamath Falls. Although a Democrat, my father was a general admirer of Mark Hatfield. He grew up in Oregon City and Milwaukee.
ReplyDeleteI've always been Democrat too. Here in Holland I vote Labour.
ReplyDeleteHowever, Mark Hatfield wasn't an overly conservative Republican. My father has since passed on, but I believe the old congressman, who once recommended my brother to the Airforce academy, is still alive though quite up in years. No matter what his political leanings, I always thought him a decent man with a heart for the people and genuine soul. Cheers
Good to meet a fellow Democrat.
ReplyDeleteYes, Hatfield is still around. A local science museum here in my town is named for him. And yes his reputation for decency is still intact, which is saying something for someone who was in politics for so long. Cheers.
This is too funny..
ReplyDeleteits really funny how it seems that all the Methodist Churches look alike..We have the oldest Church here in Reno..on First St.. And it "almost"..Looks like this one..and ours was built in 1865 or there abouts. And there are alot of painters that come and paint it.
ReplyDeleteKeeping with the small town feel..really nice to see..
ReplyDeleteSomeone should paint this..It would look Great...
ReplyDeleteYes, I was amazed at my good luck to get this view right when the light was just right.
ReplyDeleteNow..the person sitting at that table..?? is not real?? There are some of those type of people in Green Vally,Nevada. Its really funny seeing them. There is one person that is reading a newspaper..
ReplyDeletei haven't checked lately but I'll bet its been swiped again.
ReplyDeleteThere you see?? these are really neat..
