Where Were You in '72, Part 3 The O'jays-Back Stabbers

72 was a great year to get on the "Soul Train" and this hit was another big favorite of mine--turns out it was the first million-seller for these gentlemen from Akron, Ohio. "Back Stabbers" made it up to Number #3 on the Billboard Chart.

  1. Oh gosh I recognise this song now I hear it (had no idea from the title). Its funny seeing the video after all these years. One of my online friends lives in Akron.

  2. The O'Jays put out some great record throughout the 70s. The lyrics of this song are pretty harsh but sometimes true...another great one they did along these lines was "money."

  6. I was working as a kitchen porter at a holiday camp in Bognor Regis, Sussex and generally misbehaving with an ever changing population of female 'campers' , I think the camp band did a cover of this tune along with 'Knock Three Times on the Ceiling if You Want me (twice on the pipes if the answer is 'no')

  8. This song is brilliant - I think my fave OJays song. I also have am excellent version merged with Britney's Hit Me One More Time.

  11. That's when I watched it--it came on around noon where I was, after the more tame "American Bandstand" with Dick Clark. I remember that 'Soul Train" host, Don Corneilus, had the Mother of All Afros.

  13. Never heard that one--for me this is my favorite as well. "Living for the Weekend", a single which came out about four years later, is pretty great too.
