"Desiderata" Written by Max Ehrmann (1927)--Les Crane, Narrator

This bit of poetic reflection has stuck in my mind since I first heard it as a teenager, spoken by the American television and radio interviewer, Les Crane.

Much of what we read and see provided by the media is drenched with satire and sardonic irony.  Sometimes I feel it's time to take a break from our glib post-modern zeitgeist.

I refer to it from time to time when times are personally vexing and life seems less fair and even lacking in understanding. These are times indeed that try the souls of people from a small town in Connecticut, USA to the bloody jungles of the Congo to the streets of Aleppo and Damascus. I believe we can only know so much about this world: it's meanings our rational minds offer only so much for our souls to come to grips with. If you have never heard this before or haven't heard this poetry in a while, I hope it will provide something to make your day better. Peace to you.

    1. That's a good idea to have a copy of Desiderata in a familiar place. I'll have to do that myself. Thanks Loretta.
