"How US Conservatives Lost Touch With Reality"---Faheed Zakaria may not be the first writer one thinks of as far as whistle-blowers go, but when he sees an economic or political trend going awry,IMHO, he is one of the best at articulating the problem and/or crisis. "What we do know is that of the world's richest countries, the U.S. has by far the greatest involvement of free markets and the private sector in health care. It also consumes the largest share of GDP, with no significant gains in health on any measurable outcome. We need more market mechanisms to cut medical costs, but Republicans don't bother to study existing health care systems anywhere else in the world.   2. Zakaria is too good for CNN; he'll probably go someplace else, or get himself fired, eventually, for having the temerity to point out this kind of truth.

  6. I have always enjoyed Faheed's commentary specials and so often he seemingly does comment on issues which many don't dare to touch Doug.
    "We need more market mechanisms to cut medical costs, but Republicans don't bother to study existing health care systems anywhere else in the world."
    Within that remark is the key as he mentions the turn of thinking within theory. He is refreshing to watch.

  11. Haha! Yes, material for a different blog, AA. When you read what the GOP nabobs of the 30s were saying about how the national economy could recover from the Depression, they were on the trust "big business and stop public spending" kick even back then.
