What Next? Restaurant Workers Told Whom to Vote For In Their Pay Checks By Boss Man-- I guess they can hire and fire according to party affiliation next. Too bad for the owner that this is against the law. (see below) --When workers in a McDonald’s restaurant in Canton, Ohio, opened their paychecks this month, they found a pamphlet urging them to vote for the Republican candidates for governor, Senate and Congress, or possibly face financial repercussions. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/30/us/politics/30ohio.html

  1. Some people are definately setting the ethical bar pretty low this election year, Heidi.

  2. "Some Tea Party members have announced plans to question voters at the polls whom they suspect of being ineligible."
THIS should be stopped, & I don't care how.

This is worse than McDonalds...plus, was this coercion only against the law in Ohio?

  3. I've never set foot in a McDonald's. Right now, I don't care if that makes me 'uppity' - I never will....

  4. I know somew neighborhoods in California that those Tea Party "super patriots" better stay the hell out of if they are smart. They aren't the only people in the USA who know how to draw a crowd!

  5. Nor have I, or any fast food place. But, um, how do you feel about the other stuff?

  6. Bad for your health anyway, Will. I did notice that this guy is apparently a franchisee, and the company itself is not backing him. I think the suits smell "boycott".

  7. GREAT! I live in California. What neighbourhoods???

    ReplyDelete
  8. Well, any "blue" neighborhood for one, Lucija, like my friends in San Jose live in. Any neighborhood where African-Americans and Hispanic citizens are a significant part of the community. I'm guessing they have heard enough and maybe experienced enough of this crap back in other parts of America in the past.

  9. McDonald's, bad for your health, bad for your pocket book and now worse for our political freedom... Bad for America?

  10. Makes sense, Doug. So, I guess they won't bother to come here. I have a Hispanic friend about 45 miles from here. I'll alert her! She's a terror on wheels when it comes to things like this.

  11. Who works for McDonalds? Are they young, & vulnerable?

They have nothing to fear; no one is going to follow them to see who they vote for! But do they fear anyway?

I think this precedent will deter other employers from doing the same.

  12. It is incredible in this day and age this still goes on. America is supposed to be the land of the free. I guess free is only used when it applies to some people.

  13. Crabby, those 'some people' will become far more few & far more powerful if this election returns conservatives to the House.
The 'dead heat' of Reid & Angle is frightening. Of course, McCain's endorsement of Angle is no surprise after Palin. Two of a kind.

  14. They seem to come and go. Remember McCarthy he did not last long. These idiots will eventually shot themselves in the feet.

  15. Certainly a threesome of badness to consider George.

  16. I'll bet she is!
Democratic voters are making a late surge in states like Nevada, according to the early mail-in voter numbers in Vegas and Reno, Lucija. Keeping my fingers crossed there--as well as for Senator Boxer in my old home state.

  17. Apparently one franchisee in Ohio doesn't think much of the fredom of those he works for, Fred, who, as Lujica said, are young and impressionable. I hope this guy learns a lesson from this.

  18. Yes, Fred, but it takes a bit of time to undo damage like that when people play the "unAmerican" card. I believe as you do however that in the long run most scoundrels get their just desserts in our system.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Perhaps. But in the meantime, people suffer their damage.

We need to get them OUT as soon as possible.

  20. Well this is what I'd expect in a totalitarian corporatocracy Doug, the only justified reaction would be for these workers to come over to us here on the anarchist side and burn down McDonalds. That would be a great result not only for US politics but world cuisine as well.

I missed this. There are other body parts, & I was jesting when you said they'd eventually shoot themselves in their feet. Just to clarify!

  23. Oddly enough, AA, you seem to be a prophet. This just happened locally at a McDonald's.

Thankfully no one was injured in the fire and the only loss is to medicore fast food.

  24. Oh, that is funny! ...and so true and sad at the same time.

    Thanks Lucija.

  25. Why blame Obama for Bush's crimes against humanity when he has committed so many himself? Its not just fair!

  26. When things like this are done from a company to the emplyees, wow Doug this is so wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yes, Jack---hopefully with greater corporate power in the USA this sort of thing will not become a trend.

    ReplyDelete
  28. It's really against the law wouldnt it be ? Regardless I just read this article and with it being in the NY Times I am sure that from the corporate head office this does there has already been a letter sent to all with regards to this as well sends a large message to the rest of corporations that even think of doing something such as this.

You do have a labor standards act...if my memory serves me correctly.

  29. Suffice to say I doubt this will be repeated if this guy wants to keep his burger franchises.
