"Chariots of Fire" and "Chariots of Eggs"/A Doug's Site Double Feature!

The Vangelis-composed opening to the 1981 film classic, and the inevitable and much needed coed satirical re-enactment based on the same film, courtesy of the Second City troupe on the canadian/American comedy show,  'SCTV'.

The runners in the latter clip are the singers Darryl Hall and John Oates as the keen-to-win British chaps and Andrea Martin and Catherine O'Hara are their American opponents, one too charming and the other a tad butch.
Dave Thomas give actor Ian Holm a "run for his money" in the role of the enthusiastic underdog track coach. The recreation of the 1924 Olympics in Paris is also painstakingly done to perfection.  Even the spoons are authentic!

  2. I'm very fond of the film "Chariots of Fire." It's one of those films that one can watch over and over again and yet it always seems fresh.

Hahahaha, I loved the Egg and Spoon video................................oh the pain of dropping the egg. Unless the tarmac is hot and it fries to a turn.

  4. I agree--one for the home video collection for sure, Cassandra. Truly a timeless story and a landmark sports film. As soon as I saw that film I went out to get the soundtrack album! Amazing electronic score.

It's always good to have a partner with a skillet and a pat of butter running alongside.

And you always hate to see a promising young amateur runner disqualified in a 100 meter dash for using glue to affix egg to spoon.

The Second City group was the closest I think to the Pythons over here. Not quite as witty, but they hit their targets more often than not and all the main six main performers were unique talents.

  5. I haven't seen the movie, but very recently on notjustpoems, several videos of Vangelis' were posted, including Chariots of Fire.
My friend George & I have also used his music as background music for poetry readings on video.
One of the members found a great photograph of him...I'll see if I can find it!

  6. Sensitive & passionate, I think. His 'resume' is excellent.
What a coincidence to find his musical score in your blog at this time!

  7. He certainly has a face that looks every inch the artist.

    Thanks Lucija.

Funny how synchronicity works on this site.
