Enya - Only Time

"Only Time" by Enya.

No pun intended but I think Enya's best work has a timeless quality. This was her biggest US hit to date, hitting as high as Number 10 on the Billboard Charts in 2000.
Many people turned to this song to help come to grips with the jarring emotions engendered by the 9/11 tragedies in New York, Washington and the latter drumbeat to war.

Lyrics:
Who can say
where the road goes
where the day flows
- only time
And who can say
if your love grows
as your heart chose
- only time

Who can say
why your heart sighs
as your love flies
- only time
And who can say
why your heart cries
when your love lies
- only time

Who can say
when the roads meet
that love might be
in your heart

And who can say
when the day sleeps
if the night keeps
all your heart

Night keeps all your heart

Who can say
if your love grows
as your heart chose
- only time
And who can say
where the road goes
where the day flows
- only time

Who knows - only time
Who knows - only time.

  2. I suppose it says it all in terms of popularity that her music is played so often and the words of Enya's recordings fill our need for the right words when we can't find them. Rather lovely, thank you doug.

  5. Very nice song Doug and time does tell all. I never really followed her much but this song I recall and the lyrical content of her songs certainly were of substance.

  7. So true Cassandra. Beautiful music like this, backed up by lyrics that suit reflection and draw to our deeper reservoirs of hope , sometimes can say more than any prose analysis. A lovely song it is.

  8. Mine as well Fred. And you make a good point: one cannot overlook that haunting quality of her voice and those overlayed vocals.

It's romantic music, but in the broader sense of Romanticism: bringing us a deep appreciation of the beauty and wonder of life.

  10. In the right mood, an Enya CD can be a nice break from the normal I'd say, Jeff.
