Rural Oregon Town Says No to Nazi Neighbors

The small eastern Oregon lumber town of 2,000 people has one of the highest unemployment rates in the western states (17 percent) and is predominately white. Yet John Day's residents are not willing to step back in the ugly past of America with endorsing or tolerating the American nazis in their midst.

The self-proclaimed leader of the Aryan Nations is some 36-year old male nuisance named Paul Mullet. He wants to move out of the Aryan Nations compound that they have in the hamlet of Athol, Idaho (in part apparently because even that remote area is becoming toxic to tender Nazis sensibilities.) The nazi leaders goal is a headquarters for his pack of primitive racists in rural Oregon. But its not working out quite as easy as the storm troopers thought:

Here''s a bit of the feedback from the community the nazis have been getting:

  1. Good for these residents Doug, you know I don't know how these Aryan Nations have still existed in these times. The come off as such arrogant pr...ks and this is where I myself draw the line. Ironically they made there way up into parts of Alberta and British Colombia as well. It's good to see when ones like this don't get what they want as they seemingly are the types that think they can do anything under certain areas of the laws of the land. But good for these residents in doing this. It's unbelievably in this day and age that they even still exist. But they do, as well the Hell's Angels.

  2. Yes they do, Jack, ironically protected by the Constitution that they would destroy in the name of establishing a 4th Reich in North America.

Some segments of society don't learn do they?

  3. No I don't know how they get away with it. You would think that the police would do something regardless of what it takes. As it's been done before....with these, I don't know what would stop them from doing so.

  4. The protests are about the only lawful way so far Jack...until they try and break the law, which I believe is only a matter of time because they certainly don't have the public on their side and are only trying to slice off a minority of ignorant whites into some violent over-reaction. Meanwhile, the town of John Day has at least kept its good name with the activists that showed up at the town hall and at the street protests.

  5. When I was growing up the KKK was active in the county I lived in. They would distribute fliers into people's mailboxes. As a child I ran out and told them to get off the property when they came to put the information in our mail box. My parents told me to remain silent. I am glad to see these people are not remaining silent either.

  6. Why don't they get real and live with the fact it is they who will miss out on knowing some wonderful people.

If they go into hospital and are about to die from a heart attack, will they say no, let me die to a black doctor? I don't think so. They simply can't have it both ways, be accepting of all races or go under in a dated outlook on life as it is now.

Thank you for the article Doug. It's almost unbelievable people have this outlook after WWll

  7. These people drive me crazy. They evidently do not follow history. We fought the Nazi's in World War II for a reason. Once you start alienating one group there is no end to the madness. Once a group of people stop thinking things get scary. Books are burned, people are killed, and people do things they never would have thought about doing. Good for rural Oregan

  8. Excellent news! Thousands of American soldiers were killed by the Nazis so American Nazis are the greatest traitors in US history.

As for "Mullet" in the UK that is a slang term for "crap hairstyle", not that Nazis have hair. (Or style).

  9. Doug, as a fellow Oregonian I can hope that the entire state behaves this way toward these people.

    Good post!

  10. If everyone was as brave as you were Mary Ellen, these KKK types would be permanently back on their heels!

  13. Exactly Cassandra. This fool struts about like he's doing nothing wrong--- look at the state of the world after 1945 and the millions who died in death camps. The nazis are on the ash-heap of history and no sensible people can embrace this poison.

  14. Yes, that's what I want to say to this guy Mullet, Fred!

We don't want or need book burners and hate groups in small towns acting like they are part of a community. They are losers who want to hurt others and feel big, bad, and scary by promoting ignorance. No thanks.

  17. Yes, American nazism is just a form of post-war treason in my book. Too many people died to just turn away.

"Mullet" is also a crap hairstyle over here as well. Few men wear them now---its a national joke.

  18. I could not have said it better. Well said my friend. I wish I had said it the first time

  19. Unfortunately, Doug, they will gather in a few disheartened youngsters who will see it as a way of belonging to a group of thugs, where they can strut about with strange hairstyles and arm bands.

We will always have to be on guard against such people, they crawl out of the woodwork from time to time! They could be taken to Auschwitz and shown the atrocities that happened there and they'd still be in denial, such is the power of brain washing.

  20. Isn't there a clear parallel to be seen between the disaffected white youths and Nazi recruitment and disaffected Musilim youths and the "New Jihad" recruitment?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Indeed there is. We all feel the need to belong, but if the fragile minds of the young are in the hands of those whose influence is leaning towards the side of society that promotes violence, I'm afraid that will be seen by vulnerable people as exciting and a just cause for Jihad. We have to come up with something that offers more to these youths.

  22. I'm afraid you're probably right, Cassandra. All the more reason to get the facts out to children early in school with field trips and films on the Holocaust to counter such mind games from those from "the woodwork"

    ReplyDelete
  23. I second that. I'm convinced we all as humans need to connect to others. This is most times a strength, but in the wrong times with young minds it can promote tragedy.

  24. Good to see the community of John Day mobilising to keep this bunch of lunatics out. The Aryan Nazis or whatever they call themselves can't be taken seriously, they are clearly fascism enthusiasts who like to wear silly insignia and to dress up like real Nazis, but they will never be more than a Hitler fan club and therefore are no more than a bit pathetic.

Thanks for posting this local Oregon news item Doug, it's good to keep up with anti-fascist actions from around the world.

  25. You're welcome AA. I imagine they saw John Day and Grant County as a ripe plum for their nonsense. Pathetic stumbling about back to their hutch for misfits in Idaho is all they can hope for, thankfully.

  26. That is the worrying thing, brain washing to bring about an angy mob, full of hate has to be undone somehow. They need to be shown another way, but the excitement in otherwise boring lives make that difficult. They go so far as to have words of hate tattooed on their body and I fear on their very soul. If there was such a thing as the devil, he'd be rubbing his hands in glee.

You are right, the children need to be informed, but we will never win them all, hence the need to be on our guard.

  27. Quite true Cassandra. One needs only to read the "Letters"section of my local newspaper to make me realize we do indeed need to be on our guard---so much prejudice and reactionary ideas are instilled in some unfortunate kids before they even get into "social studies" classes.
