Charter for Compassion--Bridging the World Religions and Practicing The Golden Rule

This video features an organization devoted to an alternative to fundamentalist violence and intolerance in the Middle East, Africa, North America and other parts of the globe.

The short film leads off with someone I think is one of the foremost popular spiritual writers of today, Dr. Karen Armstrong, author of "A History of God", "The Spiral Staircase" and, most recently "Buddha".

  1. my kind of thinking.....what can we do about the imbalances and feelings of powerlessness that fire the rage?

  2. I need to come back to view all this properly, short of time right now, was already delayed by intolerance and bigotry elsewhere. Anything that smacks of uplifting humanity and ending intolerance and bigotry and stupidity has my vote right now.

  3. Mine too, Iri Ani. I was so glad to see some ecumenical dialogue going on in this world which seems propelled by so much conflict. It may only be possible on the periphery of the conflict(s), but its a start.

  4. That's a whopping question, krunn. The imbalances I'm afraid seem to be getting worse. I think it starts when we stop taking sides with the "home team" and listen to others. Beyond that, I'm open to suggestions.

  5. A good video with good people. You know there are heaps of good people just like them in the world, many people are perfectly willing to help their neighbours. Its just that these are not the people running our world. The people running our world seem to be only motivated by greed.

  6. I was thinking along similar lines when I first viewed this. Yes, Iri Ani, it seems the greed-heads and the powerful get in and it plays havoc to get them out. It's so rare to match persons to the position of power without dealing with their underhanded or bald-viscous schemes to get rich and hold unto power indefinitely. And like Robert Mugabe and Richard Nixon it makes one wonder how they hang around as long as they do in a nation of rational people.

  7. I was looking in here and it's always been that way but each government has people that run it. We elect them. I feel that this is a time of several leaders working together. I know that there was so much put into this Obama and now I feel that he is coming into being just a President rather than a movement, and with Jimmy Carter ...whom has a book out of recent, there may be some opportunity to obtain peace. As previously mentioned it's one of the hardest negotiations to take place and I don't really think at this time that leaders are placing this on the forefront of there agenda...As we all are looking to clean up our own economic backyards. It's a hard manner but we came into all of this and now it's going to be government priorities. Which is sad but we can't go back 10 years. Come to think of it even then it was a hard thing to deal with as it always has been. Aside of that it's a great message within the video Doug.

  8. If somehow we could see real peace and a two-state solution that would hold in Palestine, it will only come about if movements like this one, inspired by "The Golden Rule", take hold. It may be a hard road to travel, but, we've seen the alternatives and they are hardly worth accepting--either in our backyard or halfway around the world. Obama's election and a change in attitudes in the USA are one step on a long journey.
