Back to '72--Johnny Rivers 'Rockin' Pneumonia -Boogie Woogie Flu'

This one surprised me because it wasn't as big a hit on the Billboard charts (#101 ??!! ) as I remembered from hearing it often on the radio. Well, it's my second favorite Johnny Rivers tune, behind "Secret Agent Man", and since he had so many Top 10 hits and sold an estimated 30 million albums , I'm sure he took the realtive lack of success of this one in stride. Mr. Rivers cover on "Memphis" is another great tune, of course, and I'm sure many of you have your own faves. Here is pure rock and roll and pure fun.

  1. A great bit of rock 'n' roll memorabilia here Doug, Johnny Rivers never really was big in UK although I don't know why that should be? Anyway I have always loved dancing music inspired by respiratory disorders and this one is no exception, thanks for posting it (wheeze).

  3. Johnny Rivers case in the UK sounds a bit like Cliff Richard's over here--although he finally had a couple hits, one being "Dreaming (Of Me and You)", in the early eighties.

LOL. Yes, nothing said Satuday night to me at one time like taking a date to a smokey music club and finishing the evening trying to ward off a severe asthma attack. Good times.

  4. All the more reason I was surprised it didn't do as well as Donny Osmond singing "Puppy Love". Popular taste can be perplexing.

  5. Hmmm. Yes one less kitsch singer more or less...judging by this clip from a popular kids show from back in the day, he at least made for a good puppet.
