'Where Were You in '72?', Part One: Timmy Thomas-- Why Can't We Live Together

This was the year I turned 12. I was becoming better aware of the nuances of popular music. My thought patterns turned for something more than a catchy tune. Not all of what I liked back then holds up today, but this song by Timmy Thomas, a great keyboardist and a fellow with impeccable jazz credentials as well, sounds as cool as ever to me.

Here is Thomas on the song from a 2005 interview in the online "The Standard Report"

"At the time I wrote the song, I couldn 't pick up the newspaper and fathom all the hurt that was going on, " he said. " It wasn't so much a racial thing as much as what was going on in places like Vietnam and in the Middle East between Israel and Egypt."

  1. Does your wife know you have a video of scantily clad women dancing on the computer. It was an interesting song. I cannot remember ever hearing it before

  2. It's ironic, isn't it, considering the title and message of the song. Hey, it's not like I told this guy back in the day to have some woman/women dance around in a bikini(s). It's supposed to be about peace and understanding...what do you need the sexy dancing for?

  3. Eye appeal! I am a big proponent of sexy dancing. I think every girl should have to learn sexy dancing for their husband and for the women every man would learn the fine art of fore play. The world would be a much happier place! Probably be less war because everyone would be to tired from all the nocturnal activities!
