This is Dick Dale ("The King of the Surf Guitar") and Stevie Ray Vaughan doing a mid-1980's update of Dale's hit song, "The Pipeline". It's from a movie called "Back to the Beach", which I haven't seen, but I feel I have seen it anyway judging by the familar faces from my baby-boomer youth that appear in this music video. Anyway, a friend gifted me with a CD featuring 25 of Dale's best work from 40 years back to more recent times. This is a my favorite trac off that CD.
I've always had a fondness for swinging and rocking instrumentals--- from groups like The Ventures ("Telstar", "Walk Don't Run") to Mason Williams ("Classical Gas ") to British groups like The Tornadoes and Apollo 100 ("Joy"). It's not that I don't like singers, but sometimes it's great to just hear the music and create your own private imagery to suit your imagination.
A lot of younger people have been aware of Dale since his 1963 hit "Misalou" was used as the opening theme to that wacky and nasty little film, "Pulp Fiction". But this version is my favorite. Notice that Dale is left-handed, which makes me like him even more. Enjoy the song and expect more instrumentals featured on this site from time to time.
