Here's one more reason to love the Internet, folks. I have heard this French song used as incidental music in a commercial or two, plus the Diane Keaton-Jack Nicholson movie "Something's Gotta Give" (2003) and Ridley Scott/Russell Crowe feature "A Good Year" (2006)".
So I went looking for the title search in the IMDB site. A little cross-referencing on the music listings for the films and "bingo!" The song turned out to be called, simply, "Boum".
I typed the word into YouTube and boum, I mean "Boom!" A few clicks and I found this version from a old musical. The original composer I believe is the featured singer, Charles Trenet. I don't know much about Trenet, but he had major talent.
He also wrote "La Mer" (The Sea) , not the Claude DeBussey orchestral composition but the version that inspired Bobby Darin's biggest hit, "Beyond the Sea".
Anyway, this song makes me happy so I thought I'd share it. And, if you're an American like me , the next time you recall those snobby waiters and hotel desk clerks in Paris on your European Vacation, and conclude all France has to offer us are insults, overpriced wine and funky-smelling cheese, remember this...
