With the horrors of the recent attack at Virginia Tech and the tragic loss of life, I've been kind of stumped to say something here that hasn't been said. I can only offer that when one of these outrages and losses happen to so many people, it puts the sanctity and the tenuousness of life in perspective. If you love someone and haven't told them recently, then do so. Tennessee Williams wrote that "The future is called "perhaps". Which is the only possible thing to call the future. And the important thing is not to allow that to scare you."
To less troubling matters:
One of the best sites I've looked at recently is the "Open Source" blog site for the show of the same name on National Public Radio. It has a number of thoughtful contributors and a range of topics that run the gamut from the question of morality (God-based vs. Evolutionary Development) to the evolution of jazz giant Sonny Rollins to pieces on Iranian Kurdistan--(never been there myself), to weird musical instruments like the Therimin to man's seemingly eternal habit of anthropomorphizing animals. The host, Christopher Lydon, is erudite but not stuffy and can handle three or four guests on one show and give everybody their due.
The blog also offers one a chance to comment on topics for future shows and takes suggestions for new ones as well. There's a broad and I think intelligent group contributing to the site and all opinions are expressed. Take a look--and a listen-- and decide for yourself.
