Friday Laughs/ Jonathan Winters--""The Stick"/ "Red Riding Hood" "
Jonathan Winters, a comedian's comedian, is a master of improvisational comedy and off-the-wall characters.
At 87 he's still alive and reflecting back on a career in films, writing and television that inspired a great number of comedians from Robin Williams to Eddie Murphy and Billy Crystal. Here he is in a 1964 appearance on The Jack Paar Show, doing wonders with only a stick for a prop. (From the 2005 documentary "Undeniably Jonathan")
From the documentary, Winters does a unusual monologue combining crime drama with the tale of Little Red Riding Hood.

It's a cliche to say this, but he really is one of the greats. Thanks for posting this!

One thing about Winters to me is that he is, indeed, a great talent and people can't say that enough in my view. Thanks Nanina and welcome. :-)
DeleteSo true, that he is a master of improvisational comedy. Both my Mother and Father were huge fans, so I'm quite familiar. There is no doubt about the influence on Williams, Murphy and Crystal. You can clearly see and hear that in that "Stick" piece you posted here.
ReplyDeleteAlways good to start the day with some laughter, so thanks for that, Doug :)
My pleasure Scott. I think we all need a break now and then from the serious issues of the day and the little (or big) turmoils in our personal lives. Winters is just the ticket. Most of the people I like dig this guy. :-)
