Tim Burton's "Corpse Bride" (2005): Piano Duet

This dark gothic comedy by Tim Burton gave the added treat of a soundtrack by his longtime musical composer partner, Danny Elfman. Here's a little gem of that soundtrack from the movie.

I couldn't download off the film itself due to embedding restrictions but here is the animated sequence via youtube link:
As Victor Von Dort (Johnny Depp) says in the movie: "Pardon my enthusiasm."

  1. Hi Doug! I see you and Cassie are still struggling with video-posting.

Anyway, charming film, packed with romance and slapstick comedy. A bit like finding a red rose in a custard pie.

  2. Yes, I need to check the Multiply Users site and see what's going on there.

Yes, the movie is a hoot--the red rose in pie analogy works with me, Oakie.

I also would like to give plaudits to the animators and the voice work by Albert Finney and Dame Joanna Lumley, who provide the voices of Victor's parents (and their hard-drinking ancestors) in the movie.

  3. Fins and Lums were invloved? I didn't know that! Cool!

  4. I could never get interested in this movie. My daughter and granddaughter love it, but I've never had a desire to see it. I'm glad you enjoyed it tho.

  5. Yes, Finney has some wonderful lines Oakie. It helps that their characters in the movie looks so much like they would if they hadn't been outside in the sun for a few years. ;-)

Here's the cast list (courtesy of the IMDB site)

Johnny Depp ... Victor Van Dort (voice)

Helena Bonham Carter ... Corpse Bride (voice)

Emily Watson ... Victoria Everglot (voice)

Tracey Ullman ... Nell Van Dort / Hildegarde (voice)

Paul Whitehouse ... William Van Dort / Mayhew / Paul The Head Waiter (voice)

Joanna Lumley ... Maudeline Everglot (voice)

Albert Finney ... Finis Everglot (voice)

Richard E. Grant ... Barkis Bittern (voice)

Christopher Lee ... Pastor Galswells (voice)

and Michael Gough for added measure!

  6. Thaks Jacquie. There are a couple Tim Burton films I couldn't get into either, but this one clicked for me.

  7. A wonderful film - very touching

  8. I never seen this film (like most films) but I am a great admirer of animation and I loved this one, thanks for posting it Doug. I shall look out for this film, very impressive!

I have my fair share of problems with posting videos on Multiply myself, but you can usually get around the problem as indeed you have here. Where there's a will there's a way Doug :-)

  9. You're welcome AA.

It seems for the moment that the Multiply posting problem has been taken care of by "the boys and girls in the lab". We at "doug's site" will perservere. As Richard Attenborough said in the movie "The Great Escape" (paraphrase): "If the Jerrys find and close one tunnel, we'll go full ahead on another one... We will get out as many men as we can!"

  10. By Jingo that's the spirit Doug.... turns up the Elgar and dabs a tear from the eye...damned good chaps what?

  11. Every manjack of them, AA!

Just the name Elgar brings a tear to my eye.
