Captain Blood - Errol Flynn, Olivia De Havilland--with guest band ELO

Tasmania's greatest contribution to American action films, Mr. Errol Flynn, together with the lovely and long-lived Miss De Havilland from their earliest collaboration, "Captain Blood" (1935), the first of eight films they appeared in together. Their most famoous pairing was, of course, as Robin Hood and Maid Marian in "The Adventures of Robin Hood" (1938), another classic film which benefits from being shot in Technicolor.
Both were great stars together and apart and a perfect screen couple. Flynn off-screen crammed about three lifetimes into his short 50 years, and, although a hell-riser and a guy who burned the flamethrower at both ends, grew better as an actor as he got older.
Anyone interested in his life would get a kick out of "My Wicked Wicked Ways" (1959) by the man himself (but partly ghostwritten).
Anyway, I can't resist this combo, so here they are, with a little boost of modernity from the Electric Light Orchestra.

  1. I'm a big fan of both Flynn and ELO. Captain Blood is a 4 star movie; my personal favorite of his, of course, is Robin Hood.

  2. Me too. I got a chance to see "Robin Hood" on the big screen at the UC Theater in Berkeley. A great print. The remake with Kevin Costner may have been more realistic, but it didn't do it for me. Of course, its hard to beat a classic.
